This was a second stop on its travels a short time ago. One of our drivers delivered it into a hotel lobby for display.

As you can see, it was a pretty tricky, yet well coordinated process.

And it's in.... safely! Now, the set-up of the plane begins...

It was quite an impressive area to exhibit this awesome machine.

All set up and ready to go!

Until the next show....

Unigroup Awards- Thank You!

It is quite an honor that, once again, we had the opportunity to be recognized with awards from the home office. Trying to express our gratitude with "thank you" is an understatement.

But truely, to all of our team members, drivers, fellow agents, customers, accounts, and everyone else under the Unigroup umbrella- THANK YOU!

No one ever knows for sure what each year holds in store. The moving industry is no different. So, whenever we learn that we have earned awards for the previous year, we never take it granted.

This year, almost every single one of our agents was recognized for sales achievements.

And, we were very proud to have earned awards in hauling as well.

Thank you to everyone that contributes day in and day out, through peak season and off- we could not do it without all of you.

For any drivers that would like to join our team, we are hiring!
We are hiring drivers for local, regional, and interstate.
And, you can apply online! Our preliminary applications takes no more than a few minutes.

Airplane Delivery- 1st Stop

Previously, we posted a few pictures of a small plane being loaded into one of our trailers. Now, you can see the delivery experience! This plane was on it's way to make a couple stops at airshows.

The following photos are from one of the stops.

Easy does it as the plane is gently removed from the trailer.

On the grass at the air show....

Now to prep for display in the tent.....

A few final touches....

The wrap on this plane is really a piece of art...

It's showtime!

Transporting this plane certainly does require some additional finesse. And we can't thank our drivers enough for making these trips successful!

If the road is calling you, call us! We are always hiring drivers for a variety of
levels.

Won't Fit? We Did It!

Anyone else out there up for challenges? We always are, and had a small taste of one this day. We were on-site to load a small plane. Anyone see an issue?

Hmmmmm, this could pose a problem. We are pretty confident it can't travel like that. Ha ha!
But we can find a solution for anything! It just needed some careful maneuvering.

Here we go....

Almost there....

One last step....

Done! Fit like a glove!

On The Road in Arizona

It's not all cacti and desert in Arizona.
If you happen to be on the road in northern Arizona as summer starts to wind down, there are some exceptional sights to see!

Each year, yellow carpets of daisies take over the outer area of Flagstaff. They consume the land along side the highway heading to Sunset Crater.

Even the most seasoned driver can appreciate this bright and refreshing change of scenery.

Sometimes its hard to believe this is still Arizona!

If you head north towards the Page/  Lake Powell area, you might catch a glimpse of a red tint in the clouds.

But, if you are headed south, there is still plenty of scenery for the ride.

Sedona's red rocks really are a sight to behold and not to be missed.

And of course, as proof that there is more to the state than just tumbleweeds, we have our forests

All of this, just in the northern part of a state. One of the things our interstate drivers appreciate about their job is ability to experience new places and sights. Each day really can lend them the opportunity to see new things. Life on the road isn't always easy, but simple things like a change of seasons can make it all worth it, all over again.

And just a reminder, we are hiring drivers! If this looks like the life for you, contact us. We have a wide variety of opportunities available.

Quest for Quality Award!

In St. Louis, on August 18th, 2015,
United Van Lines received a coveted industry award:
2015 Logistics Management Quest for Quality Award in the household goods and high-value goods carrier category.

The Quest for Quality Award is regarded in the transportation and logistics industry as the most important measure of customer satisfaction and performance excellence.

The awards are determined by Logistics Management readers who evaluate and rate companies on a total of five criteria: on-time performance, value, information technology, customer service, and equipment and operations. This year, 4,649 responses were collected from surveyed readers who are qualified buyers of logistics and transportation services.

“We understand that not every customer who walks through our doors will have the same moving needs,” said United Van Lines CEO Jim Powers. “We are proud that Logistics Management readers understand that we strive to provide an individualized experience for each and every customer, while providing the best moving services available.”

S&M Moving Systems has been an agent for United Van Lines since 1974, and proud to be part of such an excellent family!

What A Ring!

At S&M Moving Systems in Fremont, California office, people are all pretty big fans of our San Fransisco Giants.
We stand behind our beloved Giants through and through. And, we also happen to be their official equipment mover.
But just when you think fandom can't possibly be elevated any higher, this happens!

The Giants actually presented this ring to the GM of our northern CA branch!!!

It was their way of saying thank you for excellent service all the years past (and we hope future years as well!).

The GM of the branch, Mike Dahl, was truly stunned and in awe! It was quite a humbling experience for him.

After all, it's not every day that your favorite team turns things around and presents the ring to you!
Congratulations, as well as THANK YOU, to Mike and his entire team for such exceptional service! Job well done!

New Cameras on AZ Freeways for Commercial Trucks Only

If you are driving some of the freeways in Arizona, you may have noticed new cameras installed alongside freeways. But it should be noted, these are NOT speed cameras.

These are part of a new program rolled out by ADOT to help with commercial trucking inspections.
In each area that a camera is stationed, there will also be sensors in the pavement.

The way it works is this:
A commercial truck drives over the sensors. At the same time that the sensors are registering weight, etc, the camera is taking pictures. They will capture any documentation required to be visible on commercial trucks (standard family cars are not heavy enough to trigger the camera).

If the system finds that the truck is not compliant to state mandatory regulations, electronic signs will direct them to pull over for a second inspection. The good news is that truckers that are compliant will be allowed to move right along. They will not be burdoned with random stops.

Basically, ADOTs goal with this new program is to help commercial truckers that are following regulations, as well as delegate manpower to other areas needed.

This new system is said to roll out actively within a month.

Below is a list of the camera inspection locations:
  • McGuireville Rest Area (Interstate 17 between Flagstaff and Camp Verde) technology operational in May 2015
  • Canoa Ranch Rest Area (Interstate 19 between Tucson and Nogales) technology operational in June 2015
  • Sacaton Rest Area (Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Casa Grande) technology operational in July 2015

Big Rig Just About Drives Itself

There was a big unveiling a few weeks back. It took place at the Hoover Dam. What was it that is catching all the attention? Introducing:
Freightliner Inspiration Truck

This concept rig has now become a reality. But what makes it so special?
It is the first ever of its kind.... an autonomous commercial vehicle to operate on an open highway.
Don't misunderstand, a driver is still needed to operate and run this rig. But, it has a whole list of technology and safety features that aid the driver. A few we like best:
*Tiny cameras replace mirrors on the exterior saving on fuel and giving more accurate visuals.
*Front stereo camera scans and communicates lane marking to Highway Pilot to direct lane guidance.
*Front radar unit scans 130 degrees and communicates to Highway Pilot the need for brakes, etc, if someone is about to cut the rig off.
*Adaptive Cruise Control Plus can control distance and speed without driver intervention.

And that's not even the full list! Pretty interesting rig and looking forward to see the results on day-to-day performance when they are made available.

Roadcheck 2015

Attention to all drivers:
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Roadcheck 2015 approaching fast.
The annual inspection event – the CVSA's 72-hour safety blitz, is scheduled for
Tuesday, June 2 through Thursday, June 4.

Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world. Approximately 17 inspections will be conducted, on average, every minute from Canada to Mexico during a 72-hour period.
Last year, 70 percent of the inspections conducted were Level 1 inspections, the most thorough level of inspections. There are expected to be more than 10,000 inspectors at 2,500 locations conducting inspections around the clock during the 72-hour period.

So van operators, here is a checklist to help you get ready:
Make a very thorough pre-trip inspection daily 
Check lights and tires 
Make sure all logs are current to the last change of duty status
Do not speed 
Be sure to wear your seat belt 
Have all required credentials handy at all times (valid CDL and current medical credentials)

One more thing!!!! Unigroups Clean Means Green program will increase its incentive from $100 to $200 for all clean inspections obtained during this Roadcheck 2015 event.

Safety...... It's the right thing to do.

CARTUS

S&M Moving is pleased to announce we have been chosen as one of the primary haulers for Cartus Corporation. As a global relocation company specializing in household goods shipping, Cartus moves over 150,000 customers world wide each year.

As a primary hauler, we have been selected to haul shipments of all sizes, moving throughout the 48 continental states. At times, we will also be able to select specific shipments of our choice when we see van operators in need of fill.

This is an exciting opportunity. We will be able to compete with New World Van Lines, as well as other carriers, for additional business in the future.

The pay model for hauling the Cartus shipments as one of our drivers has its benefits as well. Take a look:

The typical industry pay model uses the linehaul percentage method paying drivers 55% of the linehaul. Here is an example:

Linehaul                 Driver
$4000                       $2200
  Total Take Home    $2,200.00

Now, lets take a look at our model.
We pay our drivers 77% of the retained revenue on Cartus shipments. The retained revenue is 84.5% of the distributed linehaul.

Here is an example:

Linehaul                        Hauler           Driver
$4000                              $3380          $2602.60
  Total Take Home    $2,602.60

To apply for driver positions with us, please visit our website www.interstatedriver.com

Thank you to everyone that made this possible!

Interstate Driver Pay Model

This is for all you interstate drivers out there!

Do you know how you are getting paid?

We have nothing to hide and are happy to let you know how we do it.

Here are S&M Moving Systems and Total Transportation Logistics, we pay our interstate drivers based off of a percentage of the hauling commission. This model allows us to put more money in our drivers pockets by subsidizing any increased discounts.

The typical industry pay model uses the linehaul percentage method. Here is an example:

Linehaul        IRR        New Linehaul           55%
$1000               2%                $980                  $539
                                       Total Take Home    $539

Now, lets take a look at our models.
We pay our drivers 77% of the retained revenue, which can be anywhere from 71.5 to 80% of the distributed linehaul.

Here is an example of the pay model if the commission schedule is 75%

Linehaul        IRR        New Linehaul          Hauler
$1000               2%                $980                  $735           $565.95
                                       Total Take Home    $565.95

Here is an example of the pay model if the commission schedule is 78%

Linehaul        IRR        New Linehaul          Hauler
$1000               2%                $980                  $764.40          $588.59
                                       Total Take Home    $588.59

To sum it up, even on the low end of our pay range, you would still make more than with the typical industry pay model.

So the question is..........
Why Would You Want To Make Less?

Head over to our website to apply now. We'll be happy to hear from you.
